In North Carolina, Public Education is the very foundation for good citizenship. The dismantling of the Department of Education does not negate the responsibility and necessary work needed to ensure that each child receives a quality and equitable education. Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, determined that segregated education was inherently unequal and every child needs access to resources and opportunities. This landmark ruling, along with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, established a foundation for progress in tackling inequities and discrimination in education. Despite the progress we have made, data continues to reveal that students of different backgrounds and identities encounter significant obstacles in accessing qualified educators, engaging with rigorous and culturally responsive coursework, and achieving post-secondary success.
To ensure continued action and progress our namesake, Dr. Dudley E. Flood will deliver a formal statement on the State of Education and our Collective Path Forward on April 15, 2025. To access this broadcast, we ask that you please register. In preparation for the virtual presentation on April 15th, Dr. Flood requests that you submit 1-2 questions by completing this form.
Remember, Fear is Not Our Future and there is a way forward. We must all continue to do the work despite our current challenges. We look forward to engaging in this evening of reflection and possibility.
