  • Varun Chaudhary
    Dr. Chaudhary currently serves as Chief of Ophthalmology & Professor at Department of Surgery, McMaster University.   

    As a researcher, he has secured multiple peer reviewed grants and sits on national and multi-national steering committees for Phase 3 & 4 clinical trials in AMD, RVO, Surgical Retina modalities and tele-ophthalmology.  In addition, Dr. Chaudhary supervises Master's level & PhD thesis students in translational retinal research and research methodology and was appointed Associate Member at the McMaster School of Biomedical Engineering & Associate Member at the McMaster Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact. 

    He acts as Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology as well as the Co-Chair for the Canadian Retina Research Network. 

    He is a Board Member & CPD Director for the Canadian Retina Society and Retina Chair for Canadian Ophthalmological Society Annual Meeting.  
  • Anat Loewenstein
    Anat Loewenstein, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Sidney Fox Chair of Ophthalmology at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at the Tel Aviv University, and the Chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology at the Tel Aviv Medical Center, President of the Israeli Ophthalmological Society.

    Dr. Loewenstein’s main field of interest is the investigation of the drug administration and toxicity to the retina, early detection of macular degeneration and home monitoring of disease. Dr. Loewenstein was involved in the development of multiple innovative efforts, was the leader behind the development of novel technology for early detection of macular degeneration, the development of automated technology for detection of retinal disease activity and the development of augmented virtual reality to replace the operating microscope as well as development of home OCT. 

    Dr. Loewenstein has published 435 papers in peer reviewed journals and contributed multiple chapters to ophthalmology textbooks.

    She has multiple roles in the most prominent retina societies. Today, she serves on the International committee of the macula society and is currently the General Secretary of the Euretina.

    Dr. Loewenstein is active at most international retina meetings and is an invited speaker in most.

    Dr. Loewenstein serves as the Editor in Chief of the Journal Case Reports in Ophthalmology and is an associate editor of the European Journal of Ophthalmology and of Ophthalmologica.

    She has received multiple international awards, ss a leader in retina disease diagnosis and management and serves on the medical advisory boards of most prominent ophthalmological pharma and device companies.

    Dr. Loewenstein has many roles as a leader in mentorship of young retina specialists including a mentorship educational program of ARVO, Euretina as well as mentorship programs supported by industry. 
  • Frank Holz

    Frank G. Holz is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Bonn, Germany.

    His main research interests include the pathogenesis, biomarkers and new therapies for macular and retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases and macular telangiectasia. His major clinical interest is medical and surgical retina.

    He has a keen interest in innovative retinal imaging technologies and image analysis strategies. He was a scholar of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), trained at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and the University of Chicago/Pritzker School of Medicine, and passed a fellowhip at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, with Prof. Alan C. Bird.

    Professor Holz has been a cofounder of the Priority Program AMD of the German Research Council (DFG) and founded the GRADE Reading Center Bonn to perform digital image analysis in multicentre clinical natural history and interventional trials, and is project lead of the Macustar study funded by the IMI2 EU program.

    He is a Board Member of the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG), and EURETINA, Member of the Club Jules Gonin, the European Academy of Ophthalmology (EAO), the Macula Society, the Gass Club, Editor-in-Chief of Der Ophthalmologe, and serves a reviewer for many peer reviewed journals.

    He has received numerous awards including the Pro Retina
    Macular Degeneration Research Award, the Leonhard-Klein Award for Ocular Surgery, the Alcon Research Institute (ARI) Award, the Senior Achievement Award of the AAO and the Jules Gonin Award.

    He published more than 500 articles in peer-reviewed journals and is editor of several books on retinal diseases.

  • Sobha Sivaprasad
    Sobha Sivaprasad is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Moorfields Eye Hospital and Professor in Retinal Clinical Research in University College London.

    Her main research interests are clinical trials, imaging and risk prediction. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of Eye from January 2018. She leads the Retina Clinical Study Group within the UKCRN Ophthalmology subspeciality and is the Chair of the Scientific Committee of RCOphth.

    She has received both national and internationally known accolades including the NIHR RCOphth Researcher of the year, BMJ best paper runner-up in 2018, RCOphth Nettleship Medal in 2019.

    She has over 300 peer-reviewed publications to her credit.
