
















Carol Calabrese is a registered nurse with more than 40 years in healthcare, serving in acute-care, long-term care and industry. For most of her career, she has served in leadership roles. She has held positions as the system director of epidemiology and infection control services for a healthcare system in Ft. Myers, Fla., and Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo., and well as worked in interim leadership roles. While working in in acute care, the infection prevention and control departments she served had no recommendations during Joint Commission surveys. Her experience encompasses acute care, long-term care, home health, hospital clinics and physician practice. She has also held positions as a clinical specialist/infection prevention for Bard Medical Division, consulting with customers on the prevention of CAUTIs and senior clinical advisory with Diversey, Inc. supporting internal and external customers with education and support on the selection and use of disinfectants and environmental hygiene practices and processes in healthcare. Calabrese has been board certified in infection prevention and control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology since 1990. She became a certified healthcare environmental services Professional (CHESP) in 2021 through the American Hospital Association and became a certified trainer for surgical cleaning technicians (T-CSCT). In 2016, she served the Greater Kansas City APIC as president, president-elect in 2015 as well as serving as a board member and conference planning committee member. She has also served on the boards of DFW APIC and FPIC (Florida Professionals of Infection Control) as secretary.

Cynthia Fronning RN, GERO-RN, CDONA, FACDONA, RAC-CT, IP-BC, AS-BC, CALN, EFLA, has more than 40 years of experience in long-term care including serving as a national clinical consultant specializing in clinical reimbursement and leading a team of reimbursement specialists, as well as serving as a director of nursing, and as an assistant director of clinical services for a large non-for-profit organization. Her experience includes education of nursing home personnel, mentoring of nurses and directors of nursing, clinical systems and form development, department restructuring, and mock surveys. She has extensive experience in Medicare, MDS/RAI process, (AANAC certified), care planning, implementation of systems as well as a comprehensive understanding of State and Federal regulations. Fronning has achieved successful results as a clinical consultant in all aspects of clinical operations, as well as regulatory compliance. Currently she is the director of education for NADONA, and is responsible for the planning, direction and implementation of all educational projects and pursuits within the organization.




James Davis, MSN, RN, CCRN-K, CIC, HEM, FAPIC, is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Prevention (APIC), is an APIC fellow (FAPIC) and has served as president of the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter, and is a past chair of APIC’s national research committee. He has provided educational programs on infection control topics for risk management groups and patient safety organizations, as well as for hospitals, long-term care and ambulatory surgery systems. Davis designed version 2 of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority’s long-term care healthcare acquired infection reporting system and analytics programs. He has authored multiple infection prevention and control articles and is published in several international peer-reviewed journals.


Judy Allison, MBA, is a senior account executive at ECRI with more than 30 years in healthcare that includes a combination of clinical experience as a surgical technician in the Air Force and supply chain. She serves as a consultative partner for value analysis programs, assisting organizations with improving patient safety and outcomes, as well as lowering costs and optimizing ROI.


Mairead Smith is a principal project engineer with ECRI's Device Evaluation group. Since joining ECRI in 2013, she has performed laboratory evaluations of laparoscopic and flexible endoscopic video systems, cardiac devices, and ultraviolet disinfection devices. As part of this testing, Smith has worked closely with infection prevention experts at ECRI, a microbiology lab, and major endoscope manufacturers. She has also facilitated hands-on manikin testing at local hospitals to gather clinician perspectives on device ease-of-use. Prior to her work at ECRI, Smith studied mechanical engineering at Bucknell University.

Margaret M. Miller, BS, MT(ASCP)M, CIC, FAPIC, joined the Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI) as an infection preventionist in December 2020, bringing 25-plus years of experience in acute-care infection prevention. Prior to joining ECRI, Miller was the sepsis project manager at the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania and a subject matter expert with HAPevolve for infection prevention, COVID-19 care in acute and post-acute facilities, sepsis, and highly infectious diseases. She is also a consultant for the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and has worked to re-open international non-healthcare businesses during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Prior to joining HAP, Miller worked at Geisinger Health and most recently at Penn State M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She is an active member of APIC, a recent board member of APIC Chapter 043 East Central PA, has maintained certification in infection prevention (CIC) since 1996, and was designated by APIC as a fellow in infection prevention (FAPIC) in 2016. Miller is published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC) and has had poster and oral presentations at national APIC conferences. During the Ebola outbreak in western Africa, she was one of a five-member core team that worked to attain Ebola treatment center status for a Pennsylvania hospital.
