About

Taiwan is undergoing an ambitious energy transition while simultaneously seeking to bolster energy resilience in the face of geostrategic threats.  The island’s energy policy, consistent with consumer demand, calls for more low- and no-carbon power generated from LNG and renewables to drastically reduce emissions from coal, with the aim of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Taiwan’s energy transition, unique geopolitical situation, and important position in global supply chains make securing a consistent and reliable energy supply of the utmost urgency.

Join this four-part series, which aims to introduce new technologies while also tackling barriers to energy development. If you represent a U.S. company that offers energy transition solutions and would like to get involved in this dynamic and strategically critical market, please read the details of each program below and register today!

Building the Complete LNG Delivery, Storage, and Power Generation Loop
Building the Complete LNG Delivery, Storage, and Power Generation Loop
Lower-carbon LNG power is a big part of Taiwan’s energy transition, which aims to increase the percentage of LNG generated electricity from 33% to 50% of the total energy mix by 2025.  To reach this ambitious goal and to ensure energy security, Taiwan is rapidly expanding its LNG receiving and storage infrastructure. Two state-owned enterprises—China Petroleum (Taiwan) Corp. (CPC) and Taiwan Power Company (TPC)—and a private company, Formosa Petrochemicals, will be responsible for the expansion.

As of early 2024, Taiwan is estimated to have only 11 days’ worth of LNG stored on the island, with total tank storage capacity at just 16 days.  Taiwan plans to increase LNG deposited on-island to 14 days, with a storage tank capacity up to 24 days, by 2027.  These plans present a significant market opportunity for U.S. LNG power and LNG infrastructure companies.

This seminar is designed to cover the full supply loop of LNG power, including upstream LNG supply, LNG gas turbines, regasification and storage tank construction, and the final, further carbon-cutting step of carbon capture, utilization, and storage. Participating U.S. companies will have the opportunity to present to an audience of high-level energy policy makers and end-user companies, including those mentioned above. Speakers from the public sectors are yet to be confirmed; however, we expect senior officials from Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), Senior Executives from CPC and TPC, and experts from the U.S. Departments of Energy and Commerce. Join this seminar to explore these multi-billion-dollar market opportunities.

If you wish to participate in this event as a speaker (in person or on-line, but preferably in person), before October 10, 2024, please use the Registration link on the home page to provide a brief introduction and elaborate on why you believe you are well-suited for the seminar. For those not selected to speak at this event, Commercial Specialist Kenneth Chen (Kenneth.Chen@trade.gov) will be happy to work with you to prepare for a customized presentation of your products or services, or to facilitate a matchmaking event for your firm to help you explore the market further and/or find representation in Taiwan.

Intelligent Solutions for Power Distribution Resource Management
Intelligent Solutions for Power Distribution Resource Management
Multinational companies in Taiwan are facing increasing pressure to derive a high percentage of their power from renewable energy. Taiwan Power Company (TPC) is a state-owned enterprise, the largest power provider in Taiwan, and the owner and operator of Taiwan’s national grid. As Taiwan transitions to renewables and allows for more independent power production of new power sources, TPC is facing the following challenges:

  • Integrating renewable and new power into the national grid, and
  • Managing power end-users through data analytics that enable it to generate and distribute power more efficiently.

These challenges present U.S. companies with unique market opportunities related to power source management as well as intelligent solutions for the energy and electric vehicle sectors.

Speakers from the public sector are yet to be confirmed; however, we expect senior officials from Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Taiwan Power Company, and experts from the U.S. Commerce Department to deliver remarks at the event.  Join this seminar to meet with and brief the largest buyer of power generation and distribution equipment and technologies in Taiwan!

If you wish to participate in this event as a speaker (in person or on-line, but preferably in person), before Octorber 10, 2024, please use the Registration link on the home page to provide a brief introduction and elaborate on why you believe you are well-suited for the seminar.
