ATLANTA, GA [Oct 12, 2022] — In-person events are back with a vengeance in 2022 as recent reports suggest an adoption rate of 819% in 2022, with virtual events decreasing by 76%.

Coming into 2022, the American Express Meetings & Events Global Forecast predicted a decline in the adoption of virtual events, forecasting that 81% of events will “have an in-person element” and as paranoia over COVID-19 has reduced, it is a prediction that has largely been realized, with organizations across the world quickly reverting to several pre-pandemic practices.

Some of the key reasons for this trend, from an attendee perspective, include fatigue associated with webinars as well as other virtual events and meetings. Added to the dissatisfaction with the web-based experience as a replacement for in-person interactions. From the host’s perspective, as e-marketer reports, only 51% of event-based marketing teams feel satisfied with their virtual events platform, and 2 in 3 (or 67%) find it “difficult to articulate a brand” via a virtual event alone.
