Since completing his PhD in Agronomy in 1982, Dan focused his career on the application of plant breeding and modern genetic technologies for the improvement of a wide diversity of field, vegetable and ornamental crops, holding leadership roles in Monsanto, DuPont, Renessen and Syngenta. Now as Head of Seeds R&D for Farmers Business Network, Dan is leading the development of breeding programs in corn, canola and industrial hemp, built on a collaborative approach that engages genetic technology companies with FBN’s farmer members to deliver superior on-farm performance from a new, more cost-effective model.

Doug Miller, Illinois Crop Improvement Association

Mr. Doug Miller is the CEO of the Illinois Crop Improvement Association. He is a Registered Genetic Technologist member of the Society of Commercial Seed Technologists. Doug also serves as the Seed Quality and Testing chair of the Seed Science Foundation. The Illinois Crop Improvement Association provides protein-based trait detection and confirmation services for the seed and grain industries. The association laboratories are ISO: IEC 17025 accredited and participate in routine proficiency testing in seed and grain testing. Mr. Miller has been with Illinois Crop Improvement since 1994 and worked in the trait testing, field inspection, and winter farm service areas before becoming CEO in 2013. Doug has a BS in Botany from Eastern Illinois University and an MS in Plant Pathology from Kansas State University where he served as a Research Assistant for the Wheat Genetics Resource Center.

Dr. Emily Whiston is the Global Market Segment Leader for EnviroLogix, which is the industry leader in point-of-need GMO diagnostics for grain and has recently launched a Non GMO Project GMO PCR testing lab service. EnviroLogix technology is used throughout the world to manage risk and drive rapid decision-making for GMO and mycotoxin contamination. Emily earned her PhD from the department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. With over ten years of experience in academic research and seven years in grain diagnostics, she brings a deep understanding of plant genetics and molecular detection to the agricultural industry. At EnviroLogix, Emily has worked in technology discovery, molecular diagnostic product development, strategic development, and marketing. Emily is passionate about STEM education and outreach in her local community in southern Maine and enjoys spending time at her family’s oyster farm in the waters of Casco Bay.

Jon Doggett, NCGA

Jon Doggett is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Corn Growers Association, a grower-led trade association with offices in St Louis and Washington.

 

Doggett assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in September 2018. Prior to that, he was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President in December 2014, from the post of Vice President, Public Policy.

 

Raised on his family’s Montana ranch, Doggett has substantial knowledge of production agricultural and more than 30 years of agricultural policy experience.

 

Prior to joining NCGA, Doggett served 11 years at the American Farm Bureau Federation, where he was the Bureau’s lead lobbyist on a number of public policy issues, including ethanol, climate change, land use, conservation and endangered species.

 

While in Washington, Doggett also worked for the National Cattleman’s Beef Association/Public Lands Council and served as senior legislative assistant for former Montana Congressman Ron Marlenee. His ability to look at issues with a fresh perspective and find a common ground has been the cornerstone of Doggett’s work in the legislative arena.  In 2004, he was named one of the most influential lobbyists in Washington by The Hill newspaper.

 

Doggett has served as President of the Washington Agri-Business Club and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Lobbying and Ethics.

 

In addition to his public policy experience, Doggett was a stockbroker for Dean Ritter Reynolds and a district manager for Allis Chalmers Corp. He attended the University of Montana, where he majored in finance and journalism.

 

Doggett enjoys returning to his family’s ranch in Meagher County, Montana. He is an enthusiastic kayaker and has earned a Sea Kayak Instructor certificate. Jon resides in Northern Virginia with his wife, Nancy.  They have two adult children, Katie and Andrew, and the two most wonderful granddaughters in the whole world.

 

Founded in 1957, the National Corn Growers Association represents approximately 40,000 dues-paying corn growers and the interests of more than 300,000 farmers who contribute through corn checkoff programs in their states. NCGA and its 49 affiliated state associations and checkoff organizations work together to help protect and advance corn growers’ interests.

Bob Vandedrinck, Vyncke

Bob Vandedrinck is Regional Sales Manager at Vyncke, responsible for the development of biomass fired energy plants across the American continent. Bob has over 10 years of experience in developing projects to convert agro-waste (and other biomass sources) to thermal and electrical energy, greatly reducing the CO2 footprint of his customers’ operations as well as providing a significant cost reduction versus traditional fuels. He holds a B.S. in Ocean Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and an MBA from Palm Beach Atlantic University and is based in Barcelona, Spain.
