18th Annual SWATA Student Winter Workshop

OVERVIEW: The SWATA Student Development Workshop is intended to be a complement to CAATE athletic training programs and to assist students preparing for professional credentialing examinations in athletic training (state and/or national exam formats). The examinations, covering the domains of athletic training, will be scored to provide attendees with a baseline of their cognitive knowledge. Feedback will be provided on exam questions. The workshop will also provide nationally recognized speakers and networking opportunities. The District VI Quiz Bowl Competition is also held in conjunction with the Student Development Workshop. The winning team will represent District VI at the NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia.

TARGET AUDIENCE:  College and University Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students
2026 DATES:  Thursday, January 29 to Saturday, January 31, 2026
LOCATION:  Tarleton State University Fort Worth Campus @ Chisholm Trail

TWO TRACKS: Both options seek to provide resources for the student in their transition to practice. Students should seek input from their program director to assist in selecting the option that is the best fit for their goals.

• Knowledge Assessment Workshop: This pathway is for second year students who will be taking the BOC exam in 2026.  The pathway has been designed to assist in the preparation of the BOC exam by providing a mock-examination to assess the students’ knowledge.
• Skill Development Workshop: This pathway is for first year students in their programs.  The pathway has been designed to assist the student with the development of the psychomotor skills and clinical reasoning that is required to become a successful athletic trainer. 

REGISTRATION FEES

NATA Member: $100 through January 6th; $125 January 7th through onsite
Non-NATA Member: $145 through January 6th; $170 January 7th through onsite

QUIZ BOWL
The District VI Quiz Bowl Competition is also held in conjunction with the Student Development Workshop. The winning team will represent District VI at the NATA Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia. Students attending the Student Development Workshop will be eligible to enter a team for the Quiz Bowl. To register a team, please submit the SWATA Quiz Bowl Registration form by Thursday, January, 22nd. The Quiz Bowl team should consist of 3 members and 1 alternate.

Refund Policy for SWATA Paid Events 

All refund requests must be made to the SWATA COO via email swataoperations@gmail.com and will be processed 10 days following the conclusion of the meeting in coordination with the SWATA District Treasurer.

All refunds will be subjected to an 8% administrative fee when payment is made by credit card regardless of the date of the request. Requests for refunds prior to the event start date where initial payment was made by check will be processed no later than 10 days following the conclusion of the event and the check will be written to the issuer of the original payment.

• Requests for refunds received 15 days prior to the end of early registration will be granted in full less 8% for the credit card administrative fee. 
• Requests for refunds received later than 15 Days prior to the end of early registration but before the event begins will be granted at 50% of the amount paid, less 8% for the credit card administrative fee. 
• Requests for refunds received after the event start date will not be considered without mitigating circumstances*. 

*Mitigating Circumstances: A full refund less the credit card administrative fee of 8% will be considered to registrants providing documentation that a cancellation was unavoidable due to illness or death in the immediate family. Refunds will be reviewed by the SWATA District Treasurer and SWATA COO for processing no later than 10 days following the conclusion of the event.
