Jennifer Diaz is a Board-Certified international attorney, author, and public speaker specializing in customs and international trade. Mrs. Diaz founded Diaz Trade Law in 2016. The firm boasts a multilingual team of experts and has rapidly become one of the nation’s leading Customs and International Trade law firms.

Since 2006, Mrs. Diaz has counseled businesses of all sizes on complex customs issues and has a strong record of success in mitigating federal administrative enforcement actions. Mrs. Diaz has been recognized by Chambers Global and USA, “Super Lawyers” as a Top International Attorney, has an AV rating of “Superb,” and is considered a leading expert in International Trade Law by the Florida Bar.

Mrs. Diaz is a frequent contributor to Bloomberg Law, the American Bar Association (ABA), and The Florida Bar, authoring numerous articles and chapters of leading books on import, export, customs laws and international trade. She is also the editor of the prominent “Customs & International Trade Law” blog, listed as a top web resource under the United States Library of Congress.

Beyond her legal practice, Mrs. Diaz has been a champion of organizations within her industry internationally as well as locally in South Florida. For over 15 years, she has been committed to the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT), a worldwide nonprofit organization that focuses on fostering international trade and the advancement of women in business. Mrs. Diaz served as the both the South Florida chapter President (2010-2011) and as the international President (2019-2020), overseeing over 20 chapters, with 3,000 members in eight countries across the globe.

Prior to starting Diaz Trade Law, Mrs. Diaz was a partner at a leading South Florida law firm, serving as the practice leader of the Customs and International Trade group. She also served as an adjunct professor for Broward College from 2013-2017, creating the first international business law course for the new supply chain and logistics programs.

Mrs. Diaz received her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University and Bachelors of Science from the University of Miami. She was a cohort participant in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Program at Miami-Dade College, an internationally-recognized top accelerator to advance small businesses and entrepreneurship globally.  She resides in Miami, Florida, with her husband and daughter.

James Anzalone is Vice Chair of the South Florida District Export Council (SFDEC), an organization that provides leadership and international trade expertise to complement the U.S.  Commercial Service’s export promotion efforts. Mr. Anzalone helps lead  the SFDEC to represent the interests of the South Florida exporting community and provide business counseling on the export
process, trade education through seminars and events and community outreach to encourage Florida firms to export.

For almost 30 years, Mr. Anzalone has been engaged in international business both as an international supply chain executive and as the owner of an export management company. In his current business, James is President of Compliance Assurance, LLC, a global trade compliance consulting firm that advises firms of all sizes on U.S. import and export regulations including the International Traffic In Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets Control Regulations, Foreign Trade Regulations, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations.

Mr. Anzalone earned his Master’s Degree in International Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and his B.S. Degree in Supply Chain and Logistics from the Pennsylvania State University. He has been published in leading industry magazines and is an active member of the Society for International Affairs, Florida Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association and the International Compliance Professionals Association.

Mayumi D. Brewster

Survey Statistician, Data User and Trade Outreach Branch Economic Management Division

Ms. Mayumi Brewster embarked upon her career in the International Trade Management Division (ITMD) formerly known as Governments and Trade Management Division (GTMD) at the U.S. Census Bureau in 2015 as a Survey Statistician. She began working in the Data User and Trade Outreach Branch (DUTOB) coordinating and facilitating a number of webinars and Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) exports compliance seminars in support of the ongoing outreach efforts to the export trade community. In addition, Ms. Brewster continues to provide guidance to exporters requiring ACE export reports access through the Census Bureau’s verification process.

In DUTOB, one of her key contributions was creating export reports training resources for both beginner and advanced users. She worked directly with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and provided a thorough presentation that discussed various features within the ACE export reports application. In just 5 years of serving within this capacity, Ms. Brewster has trained thousands in utilizing the export reports feature. She is enthusiastic about serving the export trade community both in-person and virtual training and improving outreach efforts that lead to higher productivity and competitiveness.

Ms. Brewster has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Undergraduate Certificate in Management Foundations and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Maryland, University College.

Kaitlyn Catapano

Survey Statistician @ U.S. Census Bureau

Kaitlyn Catapano is a survey statistician in international trade within the U.S. Census Bureau’s Economic Indicators Division (EID). She has worked for the U.S. Census Bureau since 2023.

Ms. Catapano studied health promotion and behavior for her Bachelor of Science and completed her Master of Public Health (MPH), receiving both degrees from the University of Georgia.

Dawit Asmellash

Economic Management Division/Trade Data Collection Branch @ U.S. Census Bureau

Dawit Asmellash joined the Census Bureau in 2007 and currently works in the Trade Data Collection Branch.  He provides the export trade community with the filing requirements in the Automated Export System (AES) and makes sure that filers are reporting properly and meeting standards of US export laws and regulations.  He also makes sure to share any updates to technical requirements in AES and any changes to the Foreign Trade Regulations.  As a member of the Fatal Error Team, he observes trends, analyzes export data, and follows up with companies that are below reporting standards.  He brings a well-rounded experience from having worked in Trade Regulations Branch and Trade Outreach Branch educating exporters on how to achieve compliance and developing best practices on export reporting.

 

Mr. Asmellash has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and an Associate of Applied Science in Business Technology.  He also has a Master of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management and International Business from Howard University.

Economic Management Division @ U.S. Census Bureau

Ms. Jessica Mangubat is a Supervisor in the Trade Regulations Branch (TRB) within the Economic Management Division at the U.S. Census Bureau.  Ms. Mangubat joined the U.S. Census Bureau in 2016.  In her current role as a Supervisor in the TRB, she participates in regulatory writing, answers regulatory questions posed by the trade community, and develops marketing and outreach materials aimed at improving regulatory knowledge of the trade community.  Ms. Mangubat also processes and assists staff with processing Voluntary Self-Disclosures submitted by the trade related to suspected violations of the Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) and National Interest Determinations for federal agencies that seek export data from the U.S. Census Bureau.  Ms. Mangubat also processes international trade data agreements between the U.S. Census Bureau and other federal agencies.  Ms. Mangubat participates in conferences and seminars held by the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), and trade associations to promote the FTR and electronic filing of export information via the Automated Export System.

Ms. Mangubat earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology from Towson University and Master of Arts degree in Applied Sociology from University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Pavit Arora focuses her practice on international trade with an emphasis on export controls, economic sanctions, and US imports. She has worked with clients in a wide variety of industries, including aerospace and defense, automotive, oil and gas, manufacturing, electronics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, textiles and apparel, and telecommunications.  Originally from Massachusetts, Pavit is a resident in the Firm’s Fort Lauderdale office.  

Pavit’s trade counselling experience includes leading comprehensive export control risk assessments and developing trade compliance policies and manuals focused on the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and sanctions regulations administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).  She has also conducted trade due diligence, country of origin determinations, valuation analyses, anti-forced labor mapping, as well as HTSUS and Schedule B/HTS Code classification analyses.  Pavit’s trade advocacy includes preparing disclosures, petitions, and responses to various government agency actions, including those taken by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the US International Trade Commission (USITC), and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
