ATLANTA, Georgia, October 21, 2026 – As AI shapes how people work, meeting in person becomes more valuable. That was one of the clearest messages from this autumn's industry gatherings, and it is backed by the data. InEvent, the enterprise event management platform for in-person, hybrid, and virtual events, today shared research-backed guidance on why in-person events matter more in an AI-saturated world, and how event teams can prove that value to their leadership.

AI Is Everywhere. Real Connection Is Not.

AI has moved from experiment to everyday tool for meeting and event professionals. According to Meeting Professionals International's Meetings Outlook survey, regular use of AI on the job rose from 22% at the end of 2023 to 43% in early 2025 and 70% in early 2026. A CHS Birmingham survey reported by M&IT found that more than 80% of event professionals have used AI tools in the past year.

As AI-generated content, outreach and meetings multiply, attention and trust become harder to earn through screens alone. A conversation in a room, a shared moment on a show floor or a handshake after a session cannot be generated, and buyers and attendees know it.

What the Industry Said at IMEX America 2026

The same idea ran through IMEX America 2026 in Las Vegas. The show's 2026–2027 talking point, Design Matters, asked how to design more human experiences at a time of mass-produced AI content, and its new Tech-Enabled Futures track moved the AI conversation from how to use AI to how to humanize it.

In the opening keynote, speaker Caitlin Krause described the role of technology in events as something that "doesn't substitute for the human, but it's something that supports it," and pointed to shared experiences as a natural starting point for conversation. Show coverage from Meetings Today echoed the point: AI can help match attendees with shared interests, but organizers should prioritize human interaction, because that is the essence of meeting in person.

Attendees are asking for exactly that. According to American Express Global Business Travel's 2026 Global Meetings and Events Forecast, cited by IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer, 42% of attendees want more interactive learning, 40% want more networking opportunities, and 37% expect more personalized experiences.

Demand for Meeting Face to Face Keeps Growing

The appetite for in-person meetings is visible in the numbers. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) recorded 12,438 rotating international association meetings in its latest rankings, a 10.8% increase on the previous year.

Inside organizations, event leaders see the same pattern. InEvent's State of Enterprise Events 2026 research found that 90.4% of event professionals rate in-person events as very important, 78% call them their most impactful channel, and 52% attribute at least half of their closed-won deals to in-person experiences.

"AI is making a lot of work faster, and that's a good thing. But it's also making a lot of communication feel the same," said Pedro Góes, CEO and Co-Founder of InEvent. "When every inbox is full of messages a machine could have written, the hour you spend with someone in person becomes the thing that stands out. Events aren't competing with AI. They're the place where trust gets built, and AI should be helping event teams create more of those moments, not fewer."

How Event Teams Can Prove the Value of In-Person Events

Believing in-person events matter is not enough when budgets are reviewed. Event teams need evidence. InEvent recommends five measures:

1. Who actually showed up. Use real-time check-in and badge printing data, not registration numbers, to show attendance by account, role, and segment.

2. What people engaged with. Track session attendance, polls, questions, and app activity to show which content and experiences held attention.

3. The connections that were made. Measure meetings booked, introductions made through AI matchmaking, and conversations at sponsor and exhibitor booths, because connection is the reason people came.

4. What happened in the pipeline. Connect event data to the CRM through CRM integrations so leadership can see the opportunities and deals influenced by the event.

5. What partners got out of it. Give sponsors and exhibitors outcome-based reporting on leads, visits, and meetings, which strengthens renewals and future funding for the event.

Connected data is already changing the picture. InEvent's research found that the share of event professionals who struggle to demonstrate event ROI fell from 70% to 40% in a single year, a shift linked to centralized event data and CRM integration.

Using AI to Make In-Person Events More Human

The answer to an AI-saturated world is not to avoid AI, but to point it at the right work. InEvent's AI suite takes on repeatable tasks such as building registration forms, websites, and reports, so event teams can spend more of their time designing the moments attendees remember. InEvent's event analytics then bring check-in, engagement and connection data together in one place, ready for the conversation with leadership.
