ATLANTA, Georgia, October 8, 2026 – As enterprise and association event teams finalize their 2027 international calendars, InEvent, the enterprise event management platform for in-person, hybrid, and virtual events, today identified seven European cities planners should put on their shortlist: Lisbon, Paris, Barcelona, Vienna, Prague, Copenhagen and London.

InEvent's analysis is based on the International Congress and Convention Association's (ICCA) 2025 Country and City Rankings, which tracked 12,438 rotating international association meetings across 162 countries and territories and 1,603 cities, a 10.8% increase on the previous year. The seven cities are the European destinations in the global top 10, and together they show where international meetings are concentrating as 2027 programs take shape.

Europe Remains the Center of International Meetings

Europe hosts 53% of all international association meetings tracked by ICCA, accounts for seven of the world's top 10 meeting cities, and holds 14 of the top 20. For organizations running international programs, that concentration means the strongest infrastructure, venue supply and air connectivity remain in Europe, along with the strongest competition for dates.

The Seven Cities to Shortlist

Lisbon (188 meetings). Lisbon is the world's leading city for international association meetings, up from 153 meetings the year before. Its congresses drew more than 100,000 international participants and centered on medical, technology and scientific fields.

Paris (174 meetings). After a quieter Olympic year, Paris has returned to second place globally, ranking among the leading cities for scientific and technology events.

Barcelona (166 meetings). Barcelona marks 25 consecutive years in the global top five, a record no other city has reached, and leads the world for scientific events.

Vienna. Ranked fourth globally, Vienna is the world's leading city for medical congresses, ahead of Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris.

Prague and Copenhagen. Ranked sixth and seventh globally, both are established top-10 destinations for international association meetings, widening the shortlist beyond Europe's three largest meeting cities.

London. London rose from 11th to 8th, re-entering the global top 10.

What the Data Means for 2027 Planning

Plan by sector, not just by city. The leading cities are increasingly specialized. Teams running medical programs should look closely at Vienna, Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris, while scientific meetings have the deepest track record in Barcelona and Paris.

Mid-size meetings are the market. Meetings of 250 to 999 participants make up 31.8% of all tracked meetings, while those with 2,000 or more account for just 2.8%. Most international programs need destinations, venues and technology that perform at this mid-size scale, not only at mega-congress scale.

Data governance is now on the agenda. Meetings focused on security, safety and information governance have nearly quadrupled since 2021. The same scrutiny now applies to how events themselves handle attendee data across borders.

"The cities on this list have earned their place with world-class venues and connectivity. The challenge for event teams is everything that happens across them," said Pedro Góes, CEO and Co-Founder of InEvent. "A 2027 program might run in Lisbon in the spring and Vienna in the fall, with attendees from 40 countries. Teams need registration, check-in and attendee data to work the same way in every city, and to meet European data standards wherever the event lands."

How InEvent Supports European Programs

InEvent supports multi-country European programs with event registration software and onsite check-in built for international audiences, GDPR-compliant data handling on servers in both the United States and Europe, and CRM integrations that keep attendee data connected from one city to the next. Its AI suite helps teams build registration forms, websites and attendee communications faster when the same event is repeated across destinations.

Event teams planning international meetings for 2027 can book a call with InEvent to map their program across European destinations.

About the Data

City rankings and meeting counts are from ICCA's GlobeWatch: Business Analytics – Country & City Rankings 2025, presented at IMEX Frankfurt in May 2026. ICCA counts rotating international association meetings with 50 or more delegates, organized by international associations; corporate events, trade fairs and incentive travel are excluded. Lisbon's participant figures and sector focus are from Visit Lisboa. Coverage of the rankings is available from M&IT.
