Everything You Need To Know About Global Meetings Industry Day (#GMID2024).

Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) is upon us, taking place on April 11th, 2024. This international day of advocacy highlights the significant impact that meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and events have on businesses, communities, and individuals worldwide.

The History of GMID

As discussed in Meeting Professionals International, what began as a national celebration in Canada has become a global phenomenon. Through the dedicated efforts of the Meetings Mean Business coalition (now under the U.S. Travel umbrella), GMID first expanded to encompass North America and then became a truly international event in 2016. Today, GMID unites event professionals from around the globe to celebrate the industry’s far-reaching influence.

The Event Professionals’ Journey: The Theme for 2024

This year’s theme, #TheEventProfessionalsJourney, honors the resilience and innovation that event professionals have consistently demonstrated, as mentioned in MeetingsNet. From navigating the unforeseen challenges of recent years to shaping the future of events through constant adaptation, event planners are the masterminds behind the connections that fuel progress. The theme acknowledges the unique path each event professional has taken and celebrates the collective strength of the industry.

Events Planned for GMID 2024.

The U.S. Travel Association, the official organizer of GMID, offers a comprehensive toolkit to empower organizations and individuals to participate. This toolkit includes resources for crafting compelling social media campaigns, key messages to advocate for the industry, and eye-catching graphics to spread the word about  #MeetingsMatter.

Industry associations and event professionals worldwide will also be hosting their GMID celebrations. Here are a few examples:

• MPI Global Meetings Industry Day Virtual Experience: A 12-hour virtual broadcast featuring educational segments and special events, according to Meeting Professionals International and MeetingsNet.

• PCMA Capital Chapter: Global Meetings Industry Day: This face-to-face event will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on April 11th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EDT. As reported by PCMA, the event will include a keynote address on the state of Congress and the 2024 election and a panel discussion on workforce, labor, and unions in the meetings industry.

• Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) 2024 at Edmonton Convention Centre: This breakfast, networking, and speaker event is a great opportunity to connect with industry peers and celebrate the positive social and economic benefits of meetings and events, as detailed in Meeting Professionals International Edmonton Chapter.
